Winter fly fishing began in earnest last week. I used a #18 WD40 to catch two small rainbows. It was slow. But the river was open, and anytime you can catch trout on flies in January you should rejoice. There was no wind. The magansers and geese were out in force. There were hundreds of shotgun shells littering the banks. Rocket did not go. He's wearing a cast from a small surgery he had when duck season ended. I came across this photo of him. It's hard to believe he's nine years old already. He was a winter puppy. There was nothing to do but practice "sit" and "stay" , and play fetch with little foam paint rollers.
